Finding Gold in Guyana

Cassareep
Earlier this month, I scored a nugget of Guyanese gold, and I didn’t have to bother with the hassle of a claustrophobic mine shaft. My story “Journey by Bottle: Uncovering the Allure of Guyanese Cassareep,” published in the Winter 2012 issue of Gastronomica, won a gold medal in the 2013 Solas Awards. You can check out the complete list of winners here.

The story is not freely available online, but you can find back issues of Gastronomica at your local library. Your library might offer online access to its collection of journals with your library card (such is the case with the New York Public Library).
