Earlier this month, I scored a nugget of Guyanese gold, and I didn’t have to bother with the hassle of a claustrophobic mine shaft. My story “Journey by Bottle: Uncovering the Allure of Guyanese Cassareep,” published in the Winter 2012 issue of Gastronomica, won a gold medal in the 2013 Solas Awards.
